If you’d asked us a year ago if we would ever stop wearing cropped jeans (straight-leg Levi’s, ankle-length flares, denim culottes, et al.), we probably would’ve said no. Almost every pair of jeans and trousers you see around Vogue HQ is of the cropped variety (either intentionally or DIY’d with a pair of scissors), all the better to show some ankle and accommodate virtually any shoe—a sneaker, ballet flat, sandal, platform, or even a stiletto, if that’s your jam. We don’t have to tell you that high-rise, non-stretch, vintage-inspired mom jeans are everywhere right now, from high fashion to high street, mostly thanks to Re/Done (and its many It girl endorsements). They’ll probably never really go out of style, either, because they’re timeless, flattering, and democratic; everyone can find their perfect pair.
Goodbye, Mom Jeans! This Is the New Denim Trend of 2018
