What do you get when you pair Joan and Melissa Rivers with television cameras? The result is “Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best?” a comedy of epic proportions.

In its second season, the show documents the day-to-day lives of Joan and Melissa, including some friendly mother-daughter fights about the usual: plastic surgery, throwing a friend’s bar mitzvah, etc.

Joan Rivers, one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, brings her unique personality, witty comebacks and comedic jokes to her personal life, and making viewers laugh their heads off. For example, in one of the most recent episodes, she states, “No one enjoys entertaining! You have people come to your house. You show them your good china or the silver or candles. Everything’s just perfect. You make them just want to die of envy. That’s the joy you get from entertaining. Watching people just tense up and walk out knowing they will never live like you do,” as she pretends to smoke a pretend cigarette.

This reality show is the golden ticket to a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in the life of Joan Rivers and the rest of her family. Last season, viewers saw Joan pack up her life on the East Coast and move into Melissa’s house. Unbeknownst to Joan, Melissa’s boyfriend was living there too.

This season Joan and Melissa will not disappoint. The start of a new season means the beginning of Joan trying new things: buying medical marijuana to combat her anxiety and playing tour guide to Melissa’s boyfriend’s parents in Hollywood. For those who enjoy watching Fashion Police on E!, this season, viewers will get to see some of the tasks completed behind the scenes to produce the show.

The reason Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best? is successful is because it holds the perfect combination of emotions, making viewers wonder what crazy, outlandish thing will happen next. There is never a dull moment in the life of Joan Rivers. Also, the relationship between Joan and Melissa is relatable. Even though most mothers and daughters don’t fight about having plastic surgery on a daily basis, they do fight and make up, without destroying their bond with one another. In today’s society, relatable reality television shows are a good thing. It allows other people to see that they are not the only ones going through a particular situation. This is one of those relatable shows.
